23rd March 1940, Pakistan Day

23rd March, known as Pakistan Day and Resolution Day is a day when a great decision regarding the fate of Pakistan was made. A day when Muslims of sub-continent passed the resolution for the demand of a new homeland with provinces of the Muslim majority where they would practice their religion according to the set rules.

23rd March is the big day in the history of Pakistan. On this day, in 1940, a resolution was passed in the annual session of Muslim League India, held in Manto Park, currently known as Iqbal Park. People fed up for so long had broken their knots, opened their eyes and demanded a separate homeland where they were free to live without the dominance of any other religion. This awareness and these demands were the gateways to the making of the new homeland named Pakistan. The resolution was passed on 23rd March 1940 and it took seven more years till the creation of Pakistan.

23rd March has been of great importance in the history of Pakistan as the first constitution of Pakistan was legalized on 23rd March 1956. This was the day when new doors were opened for the nation. Bypassing this constitution, Pakistan had its first legalized constitution that declared Pakistan as the “Islamic Republic of Pakistan”.

23rd March 1940 is the most significant day for the people of Pakistan living across the world. On this day, so many rituals are followed by all Pakistanis. The day is celebrated as a public holiday. Guard of honour is presented on the tomb of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal. Event of Military Parade is held by Armed Forces of Pakistan in the capital of the country.
