Literacy holds a significant place in our lives. 8th September was declared as the International Literacy Day by UNESCO in 1966. It is the day to raise awareness regarding literacy problems. It is a matter of dignity and full right of every human being.  The existence of this International Day acknowledges the people all around the world with its importance. It is essential for eradicating poverty, achieving sustainable development, and ensuring gender equality in society.

Many efforts are being done to improve the literacy rate throughout the world. According to Miriam Webster; “the quality or state of being literate: educated – able to read and write.  International Literacy Day brings ownership of the challenges of illiteracy back home to local communities where literacy begins, one person at a time.

This is a day to praise our teachers, who take a hectic in building our personality. Some problems appear to be so big and overwhelming they appear almost impossible to unravel. But stopping the cycle of illiteracy is one challenge that can be solved – one child and one adult at a time.
