Riotous effect of Covid-19 on the Education sector

The riotous effect of Covid-19 on the Education sector will be observed for many decades.

Education lays the foundation for political, social, and economic development for any country. Pakistan as a developing country has faced critical problems of education since its inception and therefore, the system of education has failed to deliver according to the aspirations of the nation. In Pakistan, almost 44pc of the children were out of school even before the rise of this pandemic. It can worsen the consequences in a devastating way.

In Pakistan, the long-term closure of educational institutes might result in a bleak future. The vital role of education has been neglected in Pakistan which has led to low development in all fields of life.

According to World Bank Report, education poverty had predicted that the pandemic could end up seeing at least 930K children out of primary and secondary schools in the country which will directly result in economic decline by $155bn for the next 2 decades. To counter the education loss of our children, the federal government has decided to re-open the educational institutes in different phases.

Now the biggest challenge for the Government is that how they will tackle the entire scenario by enforcing the SOPs in the best possible way. There are some of the problems that will need to be addressed immediately. The situation is unexceptional and requires innovative and urgent solutions concerning the implementation of SOPs.

The education authorities and institutions must take immediate steps so that our educational sector must not contribute to the spread of the infection rate in the country.
