Virtues of Shab-e-Baraat

Virtues of Shab-e-Baraat

The fifteenth night of Sha'ban-i-Mu'azzam is the night of absolution from the suffering of Hell, in which Allah bestows His special blessings and bounties; He removes the troubles of the afflicted. Therefore, it is narrated from Hazrat Syedna Ali Al-Murtada (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The last Prophet of Allah, Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Do it, fast during the day.

Surely Allah, the Exalted in Might, send down mercy towards the heavens and the earth, and says: 'Is there anyone who seeks forgiveness that I may forgive him? Is there anyone who asks me to provide for him? I wish him well, is there anyone like that? There is no such thing! Even the time of Fajr begins. (Ibn Majah, 2/160, Hadith: 1388).

Dear Islamic brothers! Shab-e-Baraat is a night of good deeds in which Allah opens the doors of pure goodness. The deeds change, and we do not know what to write about, so instead of spending this delicate night in sins and negligence, we should spend in repentance and asking for forgiveness so that the hearts of the worshipers may be awakened that night. As the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: Whoever spends the night of Eid ( Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha) (moon) night and the fifteenth night of Sha'baan ( the night of acquittal) in worship, his heart does not die on that day. The day when (people's) hearts will die. (Kinz al-Amal, vol. 8, 4/251, Hadith: 24102).

After realizing the virtue and importance of Shab-e-Baraat, one becomes inclined to worship on this night. Man's heart is set on worshipping together and he succeeds in worshiping. Praise be to Allah. From year to year, gatherings are held in different cities and regions of Pakistan on the occasion of Shab-e-Baraat, in which many lovers of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) spend most of the night in worship.

So one may do as much of the following to get closer to Allah. 1. Seek Allah’s forgiveness. 2. Do as much Zikr he can. 3. Recite the Holy Qur’an 4. Send Salutations upon the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H). 5. Increase your knowledge by reading books of Tafseer etc. 6. Offer the Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr Obligatory Prayers with the congregation. This carries a very high reward, including spending the whole night in worship. 7. Attend the assembly of pious scholars, listen to their discourse, and try to gain some sacred beneficial knowledge. This too carries a very high reward, including spending the whole night in worship.

8. Offer the missed obligatory “Qada” Prayers, and resolve not to let them lapse again.

9. Offer Nawafil Prayers. Offer additional charity to the needy, orphans, and destitute. Serve the parents.

10. Visit the Graveyard, especially the graves of deceased parents.

11. Stay away from play and frivolous pastimes.
