Urban Development Planning in Sargodha.

ISLAMABAD:

Commissioner Nabil Javed was received in his office by experts from various fields led by Hamid Mahmood Malhi, Director, Punjab Intermediate City Improvement Investment Program and Project. Briefed on the progress made so far on the Urban Unit Regional Development Plan for the Division. Also present on the occasion were Deputy Commissioner Sargodha Muhammad Asghar Joya, Director Development Bilal Hassan, Director Local Government Asif Malik, and SE Public Health Engineering Anwarul Haq Toor and Director Urban Unit Abid Hussaini.

The Commissioner was informed that the Asian Development Bank and the Punjab Government are jointly planning the urban development of seven cities of the province including Sargodha.

Apart from Sargodha, these cities include Rawalpindi, Muzaffargarh, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Multan. The consultants will complete the preliminary work of the Urban Unit Regional Development Plan for Sargodha Division by February 28.

Punjab Intermediate City Improvement Investment is formulating a 25-year master plan which includes Municipal Services Water Supply, Drainage, Solid Waste, Transport, Parks, Green Belts, Improved Education Facilities and other sectors including Randrail Economic Zone. It was further informed that Urban Unit is also working on 14 different sectors in Sargodha Division. The Commissioner stressed the need for Punjab Intermediate City Improvement Investment and Urban Unit to work together for master planning.

He stressed the need for full cooperation between the two agencies and the provision of radio data so that an excellent master plan of the Sargodha region could be formulated. He said that proper utilization of public money would be ensured. He directed both the agencies to make the cantonment areas a part of their plan. On this occasion, experts from every department of the Punjab Intermediate City Improvement Investment Program and Project gave a detailed briefing on the Regional Development Plan.
